Andy Chen is a junior at Deerfield Academy. As a pianist of 12 years, composer of 4, and math enthusiast since childhood, he's passionate about bringing his interests together. Over the summer, he conducted research on math and music theory, and he hopes to create music in a technology-accelerated world.
Growing up, I was always drawn to the depth and complexity of classical music. The timeless works of composers like Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff have deeply influenced my playing, shaping my artistic voice.
Chamber Music & Collaborations
I have been an active chamber musician for over six years, performing with Deerfield Academy’s Chamber Music program and Junior Chamber Music. My musical career has taken me to places like Vienna, Prague, and Budapest, where I have performed for charitable causes. I've also had the privilege of collaborating with the Shekinah Chamber Ensemble and the "Celebration of Young Talent" orchestra.
Composer
As a composer, I’ve studied harmony and counterpoint, creating music for various school events. One of my recent works, a symphony, will be performed by Deerfield Academy's orchestra during Family Weekend. I also perform at senior centers, churches, and have taught music to children with autism, giving them a chance to perform with me on stage.
Beyond Music
Outside of music, I am an avid Math Olympiad competitor and enjoy playing tennis, always striving for excellence both in music and in my extracurricular passions.
